Belle Property on August OuttaTown Adventures / the Belle Property ...

The last weekend of winter is fast approaching and we?ve discovered two exciting events to entice you out of the house to take in some fresh country air on the eve of spring. For Queenslanders there is the Mareeba Multicultural Festival that involves food and craft stalls as well as parades and music influenced by various exotic customs. New South Wales residents can enjoy the Trainworks Winter Beer Festival in Thirlmere?, which is Australia?s answer to Oktoberfest ? with beer masterclasses, tastings and beer-o-phile clubs all part of the festivities. Both festivals are held on Saturday 25th August and run throughout the day. Great international cuisine and gourmet beverages will be enjoyed at both festivals.

Mareeba Multicultural Festival

This festival is a chance for the community of Mareeba to show off the heritage of their multicultural patrons. Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Papua New Guinean, Filipino, Italian, Spanish, Albanian, Greek, and Polynesian traditions will be featured in this diverse event. Music performances will fill the air throughout the day, showcasing participants from local choirs and schools. We hear there will be aboriginal dance and a Greek Zorba finale too! Expect to have your taste buds surprised with a selection of Italian pastas, Greek baklava, Spanish Paella and traditional treats from the Asia Pacific region available.

Admission to the festival is free and prizes will be raffled at the end of the day with entry passes acting as your ticket. This event is one that embraces local participation and is sure to be bubbling with community spirit. This is the second year of the Mareeba Cultural Festival, and we encourage anyone interested to show their support for the town. For further details visit www.mareebaculturalfestival.com.au.

Trainworks Winter Beer Festival

If beer is your drink of choice then this is the event for you! Home brew enthusiasts will enjoy the brewing masterclass with great tips and tricks on creating a tasty product with a complex, gourmet bouquet. Classes featured during the festival include ?Meet the Brewer? and ?How to Taste Beer? for serious beer connoisseurs! A number of boutique local breweries will be exhibiting their wares on the day including The Little Brewing Company, Little Creatures Brewing and The Hills Cider Company.

Entertainment on the day includes performances by Nick Kingswell and Hoi Polloi, which will be a fine accompaniment to a couple of frothy quiet ones! Three restaurants in town will have set menus on offer, specific to the festivities. The Outback Steakhouse is perfect for those looking for some quality ribs, whilst? The Soup Stone will suit those looking for a light yet hearty meal. The Duck Inn Pub is offering Dutch croquettes and stew for the event, both rich meals to suit the yeastiness of gourmet beer.
